The debut album
In some ways, this album has been 30 years in the making. I started writing music with a garage-sale banjo, a microphone, and a 4-track recorder sometime around 1996. I made a lot of tapes back then, some of them got used in making this record. The bungalow on the cover is the West L.A. studio where I lived: an apartment complex called Ellis Court.
Over the years and cities that followed, songwriting always stuck around in my life in one form or another, but it never took the driver’s seat. Then for some reason, after I moved from Seattle to Berlin in 2020, the music really wanted to be heard, so I let it. I released a 4-song EP, then started to record a second one—but what came out instead was a full album’s worth of songs. Some of these are old, some are new, but I think they all belong together. Handle with care.
